Individualising nutrition is fast becoming the most popular way of eating...but does that really mean?
Being an Endomorph or a Mesomorph does not mean you are a Transformer – you are not related to Optimus Prime! What is does relate to is your body type and how to fuel your body type.
As we all know everyone comes in different shapes and sizes so realistically we should all be eating different types and amounts of food to suit our body types. To determine what we should be eating and how much, the first point of call is to gain proper understanding of our body type.
So how do we figure out what body type we have?
Here’s few classic identifiers which will help you determine your body type:
ECTOMORPH
- Small frame and bone structure
- Small shoulders
- Thin/lanky physique
- Lean muscle mass
- Finds it hard to gain weight
- Generally fast metabolism
- Meal breakdowns should generally be Fat 20%, Protein 25%, Carbs 55%
- Higher carb load to keep up with that metabolism
- High fat foods such as avocado, nut, coconut oil
- Several smaller meals over the course of the day
ENDOMORPH
- Soft and round body
- Gains muscle and fat very easily
- Is generally short
- "Stocky" build/frame
- Can find it hard to lose fat
- Generally slow metabolism
- Muscles not so well defined
- Meal breakdowns should generally be Fat 40%, Protein 35%, Carbs 25%
- Lots of greens and vegetables for complex carbs to keep you going
- Stick to foods full of healthy fats like salmon, avocado, nuts, coconut oil
- Smaller meals over the course of the day
MESOMORPH
- Muscular, well built shape
- Narrow waist & thinner joints
- Low body fat
- Symmetrical build/frame
- Can burn fat and gain muscle easily
- Generally normal metabolism
- Good muscle definition
- Meal breakdowns should generally be Fat 30%, Protein 30%, Carbs 40%
- Higher carbs to maintain muscle mass and keep up with metabolism
- Lean proteins
- Stick to foods full of healthy fats like salmon, avocado, nuts, coconut oil
- Smaller meals over the course of the day
